Why EXCELLO?
I created EXCELLO Bicycle Seat & Mfg. Co., LLC after trying numerous bicycle seats, all of which were uncomfortable.
I started bicycling for pleasure and exercise, like a lot of people. With my local community expanding bicycle trails, I felt it was a good time to take up bicycling. After purchasing a bicycle at the local bike shop, I was surprised at how uncomfortable the bicycle seat was and the lack of comfortable bicycle seat options.
After purchasing over fifteen (15) different bicycle seats to try, all claiming to provide a comfortable solution, I was again surprised and disappointed at the lack of comfort in the bicycle seat designs available.
With a background in Engineering and having owned my own plastics company, I set out to design my own bicycle seat using the basic scientific principles of problem solving.
Bicycle seat, or sometimes referred to as bicycle saddle, discomfort is a widespread issue, and is a primary reason many people stop, or reduce, their cycling activity. Various studies and articles have published that anywhere from 60% – 90% of cyclists experience some sort of pelvic discomfort or numbness.
This significant statistic is counter to the large investment being made by communities to expand their bicycling paths designed to encourage more bicycling by community members. A logical question should be:
“Why make such investments for exercise and convenience by local citizens to enjoy, if these constituents are going to be reluctant to take advantage of such accessibility because the ride is uncomfortable and even painful?”
It seemed to me that the fundamental challenge was to overcome this reality of an uncomfortable bicycle seat or saddle by designing a comfortable and practical bicycle seat for all types of riders to enjoy.
My first observation was that the term “bicycle saddle” is wildly outdated. The term “saddle” to me refers to a horse saddle. It is as though someone took the concept of a horse saddle and tried to convert such a saddle into one for a bicycle.
The history of the bicycle itself is fascinating with the 1818 designed two-wheeled, steerable, human-propelled bicycle, referred to as the velocipede, nicknamed hobby-horse or dandy horse. Hence the term, “saddle”, was adapted from the English style saddle when describing the bicycle seat very early in the origin of the bicycle.
Later in 1853 the bicycle with pedals was introduced. In 1866, a patent for a pedal-driven bicycle in the U.S. was granted, and the rest is history as they say.
I only mention this brief history of the bicycle itself to make the point that the bicycle seat has not changed in terms of function, very much since the early to mid-1800’s bicycle designs.
Although the bicycle seat of today often incorporates material advances and metallurgical features, the basic triangular shaped seat has remained virtually the same over these past two hundred years, until now with the invention and creation of the ACP (Adjustable Cradle Perch) bicycle seat system by EXCELLO Bicycle Seat & Mfg. Co., LLC.

The Journey is now,
