Norman Oberto
Norman began his career as an Industrial Engineer for Firestone Tie and Rubber Company; Sales Manager at American Saw & Manufacturing Company (Lenox Saw Blades), and Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Wagner Castings Company, a ductile and malleable iron foundry in his hometown of Decatur, Illinois.
Norman purchased Imperial Plastics, Inc in 1997, and during his twenty year tenure he led the company and oversaw large-scale growth until his retirement in 2017.
Upon his retirement from Imperial Plastics, Norman became Managing Partner of a self-storage business in Northfield, Minnesota. Over the next eight years, he oversaw the growth and expansion of Self Storage Dundas, LLC from 58,000 sq. ft. of rentable space to over 154,000 sq. ft. This growth included five expansions and the acquisition of two nearby self-storage facilities.
In 2024, Norman sold his interest in the self-storage business, thus creating the opportunity to begin what he has referred to as his second encore career – EXCELLO Bicycle Seat & Mfg. Co. LLC.
In addition to his corporate experience, Norman has also been involved with community based work and is an advocate for various causes. He is a past member of the Northfield Roundtable, a local visioning group, and he served on the board of Directors of Epic Enterprise, a local organization in Northfield, Minnesota providing support for individuals with disabilities by meeting their employment, education, social, and recreational aspirations and needs. His other civic activities included a loan to the Northfield Historical Society of the Henry Wheeler collection, including the rifle used by young Henry Wheeler in 1876 Bank Raid by the Cole/Younger Gang. Norman, and his family, also underwrote Wheeler Park, a local green space, in recognition of Mr. Wheelers’ heroic contributions to the town.
Norman is a graduate of Mt. Zion High School where he was Salutatorian of the graduating class. He is also a graduate of Millikin University, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. He also was a recipient of the Major Thomas G. Storey Citizenship Award for Outstanding Engineering Graduate. He was honored to be invited back to his alma mater and deliver the commencement speech at Millikin’s Class of 2017 MBA Ceremony.
Norman, and his wife, Lori, reside in Northfield, Minnesota, where they are the proud parents of three girls. In his free time, Norman enjoys his street rod collection, including the one he built from scratch as a youngster; custom LEGO creations; woodworking; model railroading; travelling; reading; playing golf; learning about his family genealogy; and most recently creating and inventing the ACP Bicycle Seat System and EXCELLO Bicycle Seat & Mfg. Co., LLC.
